Background: Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the stomach is an extremely rare malignancy with a low incidence rate worldwide. We report cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach in this institution and additional case found in PubMed and Korea Journal of Internal Medicine (KJIM). Method: We searched using PubMed and KJIM from 1990 to 2013. Total 5 cases were searched and 2 additional cases from our hospital were included. We divided category to find clinicopathologic factors including age, symptoms, endoscopic and histopathologic findings.Result: Clinicopathologic analysis among 7 cases, 4 patients were above 60 years of ages and 6 patients being male. Primary location of cancer sites were at cardia and less curvature of body. Endoscopic features showed 2 cases of protruding type and 3 cases of ulcerofungating type. Total gastrectomy with concurrent chemotherapy were performed in 5 cases and subtotal gastrectomy was performed in one case. Conclusion: SCC is an aggressive neoplasm known to invade lymphovascular system. We found out SCC was more common in older male with primary cancer location to be at cardia and less curvature of the body. Surgical treatment combined with chemotherapy showed improvement of overall survival outcome.
