Laparo/thoracoscopic surgery for upper GI cancers in Europe

This talk will highlight the trends in the adoption and outcomes of minimally invasive oesophagectomy and gastrectomy in Europe. There are several randomized controlled trials to evaluate minimally invasive approach such as TIME (Netherlands), MIRO (France) and ROMIO (UK). National data provide another perspective on the outcomes of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic approach. However, surgical approaches remain variable and the strategy of management is significantly influenced by surgeon preference and the belief in radical lymphadenectomy.
