Advanced diagnostic developments improve the quality of screening colonoscopy. In the detection and diagnosis of colorectal tumors, there has been a recent trend towards the use of advanced endoscopic techniques, including dye-assisted chromoendoscopy, high-definition white light endoscopy and image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE). By development of the latest IEE system (NBI, BLI, LCI, AFI, i-scan, etc.) to gain high resolution, the detection rate or diagnostic ability of colorectal tumors is expected to improve. Various diagnostic methods such as capsule endoscopy or CT colonography are also widely applied in clinical practice. Furthermore, confocal laser scanning microscope enables virtual biopsy without mucosal tissues. Balloon colonoscopy as an assisted insertion modality has a high rate of complete colon evaluation in patients whose total colonoscopy is incomplete with conventional colonoscopy. In this session, we hope to discuss present usefulness and future prospects of various advanced diagnostic methods in screening colonoscopy. Many subjects are expected to submit.
