Management of cT4b squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus with invasion into the airway is controversial, with most clinicians recommending non-operative palliative treatments. At McGill University in Montreal Canada, we have compiled an expertise in managing this complex patient population using a multi-modal curative intent therapeutic paradigm. We describe a selective approach to patients with airway resection after induction therapy, and will delineate the operative techniques, as well as post-operative outcomes, of this most complex group of patients. |
