Established in 1959 as the Japan Gastrocamera Society, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) is consolidated as a major endoscopy society worldwide with more than 34.800 members. The World Endoscopy Organization (WEO), the umbrella society for ESGE, SIED and APSDE, has been recently recognized as one of the leading endoscopy societies in the world. By partnering with national and regional societies, and committed to promote safe and high-quality endoscopy practice , WEO has started to be recognized for organizing outstanding educational courses around the globe, such as the Advanced Diagnostic Imaging(ADEC) course, the Program for Endoscopic Teachers (PET) course, the High-Quality Endoscopy (High-Q) course, the WISE course and the Emerging Stars program. In parallel,, the Colorectal Cancer and the Upper GI Cancer Committees, lead by international experts, have considerably helped WEO increase its visibility and international participation, especially the on-going WEO consensus on Barrett´s esophagus, which has convened more than 35 international experts, and is expected to positively impact current endoscopy practice. At a more international level, WEO successfully organized the 1st World Congress of Endoscopy that welcomed more than 3,500 delegates and 234 faculty members from 78 countries in Hyderabad, India in February 2017. Currently, WEO organizes the 2nd World Congress, expecting more than 6,000 delegates in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil in March 2020. Also, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) has announced the 3rd World Congress in Kyoto, Japan in 2022, where more than 8,000 thousands delegates are expected to attend. From this President´s perspective, in the next decade, WEO will expand and increase current educational and international activities, lead by strong and well-recognized leaders, and through a very active relationship with national endoscopy societies. This continuous work will ultimately consolidate WEO as one of the leading societies in the world. In the next decade, the current active collaboration between JGES and WEO is expected to strengthen even more. |
