ESD for early esophageal cancers-Indian Experience

Our Institute, a regional cancer centre in India. During screening endoscopies [n=2245] for naive and treated Head and Neck cancers, using image enhanced endoscopy, we diagnosed 24 cases of early esophageal cancer [May 2018- Feb 2019. Among them, ESD done for nine cases. All were males. Mean age 59.5 years. Mean length of resected specimen was 48.8mm. Out of nine ESDs, one was of full circumference [with diverticulum-video], two were >3/4 circumference, four were semicircumference [1/2] and two were1/3 circumference resections. Intralesional Triamcinolone injection into the resected surface was given in two cases. Mean duration of procedure was 239.5 minutes.Most common intraprocedural complications were bleeding and injury to circular muscle.Late complications sticture in two cases, retrosternal pain. Oral diet started after doing gastrograffin study. Mean time to start oral diet was 64hrs. Mean followup 6months.Achieved R0 resection in all cases.
