[Background] Although there are many expectations for colon capsule endoscopy (CCE), CCE has not become widespread yet. By considering the added benefits of total intestinal surveys using AFR (: adaptive frame rate) function, we will consider the usefulness of the CCE (TOTAL study, UMIN ID: 000027621). [Method] Subjects were patients with confirmed or suspected large bowel disease. A MOVIPREP and castor oil regimen was adopted for the pre-treatment. [Results] As of January 2019, a total of 109 cases were registered, ulcerative colitis (UC): 40 cases, Behçet's disease (BD): 30 cases, screening: 23 cases, others: 16 cases. The total colon survey ratio was 104/109 cases (95.4%), with an average time to pass through the entire intestine being 204 minutes. Regarding the findings, 28 cases were normal, 29 had UC in remission, 11 had active UC, 10 had BD in remission, 7 had active BD, 11 had colon polyps. Small intestinal lesions were identified in 22/109 (20.1%) cases. In the questionnaires given after CCE was completed, 88/109 subjects (80.7%) answered "I would like to have CCE again" . [Conclusion] The total intestinal survey using CCE is an useful modality which provides high levels of safety, tolerability, and accuracy with the added benefit of small intestinal lesion observation. |
