Robotic Surgery for GI cancer in Asia

Hye-Jin Kim
Kyungpook National University
The surgical robotic system was adopted in colorectal cancer surgery, and several studies have demonstrated its safety and feasibility.
In Korea, robotic surgery using the da Vinci system was introduced in early 2000, and clinical trials for comparison of robotic and laparoscopic approach for the treatment of colorectal cancer was performed in several institutions. Until now, there is no concrete evidence to prove superiority of robotic surgery, rectal cancer is considered to be a good indication for the robotic approach. In addition, several case studies reported the advantages of robotic surgery for advanced rectal cancer such as intersphincteric resection or lateral pelvic node dissection.
In this situation, I would like to summarize the robotic surgery for colorectal cancer in Korea.
