Invited Lecture-6
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on endoscopy and healthcare provision in the UK
Edward John Despott
Royal Free Unit for Endoscopy, The Royal Free Hospital
The Covid-19 pandemic has hit London and the UK hard; very hard. This invited lecture shall describe the huge impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on endoscopy and healthcare provision in London and the rest of the country. It shall also highlight the direct and indirect effect of the first wave of the pandemic on clinical services and our response to it. The talk shall also show our efforts at re-opening of services, in attempt to deal with the massive backlog of other non-Covid medical conditions. It shall also cover the somewhat different response to subsequent resurgences of cases and the mitigation measures which are being taken to deal with this new reality for the foreseeable future.
