Backgrounds: COVID-19 pandemic resulted in interruption of elective colonoscopy. This study aimed to determine this impact on the competency achievement in colonoscopy training. Methods: The prospectively and retrospectively collected data of colonoscoic performance among 6-novice fellows (interrupted) and 5 recent-graduated fellows (control) was compared. Competency was defined as; independent cecal intubation (ICI) rate and cecal intubation time (CIT) < 20 minutes. Results: 2,757 colonoscopies were included; 1,295 from interrupted group. By 200 procedures, the ICI rate was significantly lower in interrupted group (p=0.047). The interrupted group achieved a lower ICI by 20 min (p< 0.001) and the overall success rate (ICI+CIT<20 min) (p <0.001). Conclusion: The interruption of elective colonoscopy during COVID-19 pandemic has major impact in achieving competency benchmarks of colonoscopy.
