Prateek Sharma, MD, FASGE, FACP, FACG is Professor of Medicine and Director of the GI Fellowship Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Sharma has been at the forefront in improving diagnosis and management of GI diseases and cancer, specifically in esophageal diseases, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, digital health and endoscopic treatments. He is a world-renowned physician, teacher, and educator.
Dr. Sharma has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. He has over 400 publications, including original articles and book chapters, and is regularly invited to present at major national and international meetings. In addition, he has co-edited several important books. Dr. Sharma has and continues to publish in several high-profile national and international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Sharma is currently a Governing Board Member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is the past President of the International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE). Dr. Sharma has recently been named as the chair of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) task force on Artificial Intelligence. In addition, Dr. Sharma has received several international awards including the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) Master Educator Award, the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Research Mentor Award and the ASGE Distinguished Endoscopic Mentoring Award.
