Background: Although more than 20 million community residents have been provided an opportunity to undergo hepatitis virus screening in Japan, actions against hepatitis at worksites have not yet been fully implemented. We investigate how many workers undergo the screening tests and whether nudge theory promoted the numbers of tests in worksite. Method: Approximately 10million workers who underwent health examinations in their workplaces in 2016 were analysed number of the test. Workers at a branch in the Japan Health Insurance Association who wish to get annual general checkup from 2017 to 2021 received client reminders by using nudge theory for an optional hepatitis virus screening. For control subjects, we enrolled general checkup applicants with original message condition in 2016. Results: In Health Insurance Society workers, 5.3% and 3.8% were screened for HBV and HCV, respectively. Among those who were screened, 0.28% and 0.35% tested positive for HBsAg and HCVAb, respectively. There was a significant difference in the attendance rates between the nudge theory (6.9%) and the control (1.2%). About 50% people who had positive for the screening were confirmed to visit specialists. Conclusion: There were still many positive patients with viral hepatitis at worksites in Japan. Using nudge theory could increase the hepatitis screening rates. Promoting hepatitis virus screening for workers at general checkup can rescue hepatitis virus carriers who are unaware of their infection and require to therapying for viral elimination. |
