Personal Statement;
I am serving as the Director of the Institute of Molecular Oncology and Stem Cell Biology (IMOS) and hold a Professorship for Molecular Oncology awarded within the competitive DFG-Heisenberg program. Concurrently, I have built up and now lead the first Organoid Core Facility in Germany. In my clinical track I serve as Chief of the Division for Interdisciplinary Pancreatology at the Clinic of Internal Medicine I, Ulm University Hospital. The close proximity of my research lab and clinical structures facilitates the development of basic science into translational objectives. My research focuses on pancreatic development, hereditary pancreatic diseases, and pancreatic cancer, integrating innovative stem cell-based systems, organoid models, and precision oncology platforms. This work has been recognized with the 2023 German Cancer Prize, a DFG Reinhart-Koselleck Award, and multiple professorial appointments, fellowships and awards.
