A/Prof Tsao, MBChB, FRCP, graduated from University of Leicester, UK in 1996. He undertook basic medical training in University Birmingham, UK and obtained his MRCP in 2000. He later returned to University of Leicester and completed his higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in 2008. In September 2008, A/Prof Tsao came to Singapore to take up a full time Consultant post and subsequently Senior Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2012. Since 1st May 2023 A/Prof Tsao has started his new position as Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at AliveoMedical, Mount Elizabeth Hospital Singapore.

A/Prof. Tsao's subspecialty interest is in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy [EMR, ESD and POEM]. He is the immediate past Director of Endoscopy at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and he led the Advanced Endoscopic Resection service in the hospital. He was awarded the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Fellowship in 2010 and spent 3 months at the University Hospital Kobe, Japan learning advance diagnostic endoscopy and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). He is also the Course Director of Singapore International Advance Therapeutic Endoscopy Course (SIATEC) - this is an annual international seminar in advance endoscopy including hands-on training in ESD.

A/Prof. Tsao has also been involved with various clinical studies and research projects throughout his career. A/Prof Tsao has been very active amongst local Gastroenterology fraternity, where he has served in different positions in the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore (GESS). He is the immediate Past President of GESS and the current Chairman of Chapter of Gastroenterologist, Academy of Medicine Singapore. A/Prof Tsao was the Conference President of APDW 2025 in Singapore.
