In recent years, the incidence of esophagogastric junction cancer has been reported to be increasing in Asian countries, including Japan. Due to its anatomical complexity, minimally invasive surgeries such as thoracoscopic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and robot-assisted surgery remain technically challenging, requiring careful selection of the most appropriate surgical approach, including the optimal extent of lymph node dissection and the safety of reconstruction. At present, multimodal treatment for advanced cancer has become a major topic, and there is also a need to develop treatment strategies unique to Asia that differ from the evidence established in Western countries. In this International Session, we will present the latest knowledge on minimally invasive surgery and multimodal treatment for esophagogastric junction cancer from both domestic and international experts, and discuss future perspectives in Asia.
