The 92nd Congress of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society President Kazuma Fujimoto Department of Internal Medicine, Saga Medical School

I have been appointed president of the 92nd Congress of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES). It is my great pleasure and I feel responsibility for this event. The 92nd Congress is going to be held during the 24th Japan Digestive Disease Week (JDDW) in Kobe. APDW 2016 (Asian Pacific Digestive Week) will be held at the adjacent venue at the same time. As Japan has been leading the world’s cutting-edge technology in the field of the gastrointestinal endoscopy, we have created programs for both JDDW and APDW based on this Japan’s advanced environment.

We have asked as many younger doctors as possible to be the Program Committee members, and those who were able to attend the actual meeting have been selected from among them. The members of the Committee made up the program in light with their regional background of upper, lower gastrointestinal tracts and liver-pancreas. Although this program seems to deal with much wider items than usual, this would cover almost all the regions of gastroenterological endoscopy field, making our program filled with novel contents.

As APDW 2016 is held together, International Sessions have contents in which participants from Asia-Pacific regions will have interests. Live Demo Endoscopy sessions will be held in APDW 2016 under the cooperation of Dr. Naohisa Yahagi, Dr. Hironori Yamamoto, Dr. Hiroshi Kashida, Dr. Takao Itoi, Dr. Shuji Shimizu, and Dr. Kuriko Kudo. Hands-on Seminars are organized by both congresses (JDDW and APDW), supported by Dr. Takuji Gotoda and Dr. Mitsuhiro Fujishiro, for the attendants of both congresses to participate in the seminars.

A congress is the place where people present their research, obtain the latest knowledge and interact with many participants. In particular, we expect many participants from abroad to join this year’s JDDW because APDW is hosted along with us, which surely provides great opportunity to deepen communication with colleagues overseas.
