The 63rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology
President Tetsuo Takehara
( Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine )
I am Tetsuo Takehara of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine. I will be hosting the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology (JSGE) at JDDW 2021. JSGE was established in 1898, and it is truly an honor for me to be appointed President of JSGE’s Annual Meeting. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those of you who recommended me to this role.
It will be the third time that Osaka University will host the meeting of JSGE.
The first time was at the 2nd JDDW in Kobe in 1994 when Dr. Takenobu Kamada hosted the 80th General Meeting of JSGE. The second time was at the 18th JDDW in Yokohama in 2010 when Dr. Norio Hayashi hosted the 52nd Annual Meeting of JSGE. We have been granted the third opportunity at this 29th JDDW. It is truly an honor for the university as well, and our staff members at our department are making concerted efforts in the preparation of the meeting.
The discipline of digestive diseases covers a broad range of organs, from the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract to the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, as well as a wide range of topics in both basic and clinical medicine. A remarkable progress has also been made in recent years in each of these fields due to innovation in research techniques, introduction of new drugs, and changes in disease concepts. At our annual meeting in 2021, we hope to pick out the cutting edge in the most current and advanced fields of science, also from a cross-organ perspective and the perspective of conversion between basic and clinical medicine, to be able to attract many participants to this scientific convention.
We hope that many of you will visit Kobe in the autumn of 2021 and enliven the meeting through your participation. Thank you very much.
