The 31st Japan Digestive Disease Week (JDDW 2023) will be held over four days from November 2 (Thu.) to 5 (Sun.), 2023, at Kobe Convention Center. The general program will run for the first three days, with the fourth day dedicated entirely to the Educational Lectures. JDDW 2023 will be host to the 65th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the 105th Congress of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, the 27th General Meeting of the Japan Society of Hepatology, the 21st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery, and the 61st General Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening.
JDDW was born when the 1st Digestive Disease Week was organized in 1993 (DDW-Japan 1993). The number of participants steadily increased, surpassing 20,000 in 2012. The current format of five participating societies was set in 2014, making it one of the largest scientific conventions in Japan. By bringing together clinicians, researchers, and medical staff from diverse medical departments in the gastrointestinal field, JDDW has provided information on the latest findings and endeavors in diverse specializations and related fields.
At JDDW 2023, the Integrated Program, one of the programs organized through cooperation by the participating societies, will discuss the themes of gender differences in gastrointestinal field, obesity-related gastrointestinal diseases, collaboration between therapeutic endoscopy and surgery, systems for clinical research support and implementation, bioinformatics, and new diagnostic modalities. Women’s Committee of Japanese Gastroenterology Study Group, a voluntary organization, had held its meetings during JDDW from 2002. This meeting was renamed the Program for Women in Gastroenterological Field and has been organized by the JDDW committee since 2018. The program this year will consider the use of social media in women physicians’ career formation. The Seminar on Medical Issues will address reform of physicians’ working style in Japan, and the Medical Staff Program will take up hospital-hospital and hospital-clinic collaboration and multidisciplinary collaboration in palliative care. The 7th Joint Session between JDDW-KDDW-TDDW 2023, a joint symposium with KDDW of Korea and TDDW of Taiwan, the International Session with its focus on collaboration with other Asian countries, and the Strategic International Session will also be organized. We look forward to having many participants from overseas visit Japan and attend JDDW 2023.
While the convention will be again held in a hybrid format in 2023, we will take sufficient infection control measures so that participants can enjoy the very best of face-to-face interaction in presentations and discussions. With your cooperation, we will make preparations to make this prominent scientific convention in Japan a fruitful one. We eagerly look forward to your participation in JDDW 2023.
