Dear friends and colleagues:

My name is Mitsuo Shimada, from Department of Surgery, Tokushima University. It is my great honor to host the 27th annual meeting of Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH), the long-established society, in JDDW 2023.

The main theme of this meeting is “New normal hepatology”.
Recently, big changes have occurred in hepatology. For example, a major academic interest is shifted from viral hepatitis to metabolic liver diseases such as NASH. The indication of ablation is expanded for HCC up to 3 cm in diameter as a standard local treatment. Furthermore, treatment strategy in advanced HCC is also shifted from TKI to IO. Therefore, in this meeting, we have to discuss about next innovations in hepatology.

In addition, I hope that diversity and inclusion, the sub-theme of this meeting, would be fully discussed from the viewpoint of not only our society itself but also academic fields of hepatology.

Anyway, we are looking forward to welcoming many participants and having face-to-face fruitful discussions during the beautiful 2023 autumn season in Kobe.
